Welcome to the RTH
Children's Center! Our staff is nurturing, kind and capable
and is certified by Early Education and Care. We
have a certified kitchen staff that provides nourishing
and delicious meals and snacks for the children and we provide
an educational curriculum to enhance children's strengths,
interests and overall development.
If you are interested
in joining our circle of families, please call Marta Franklin,
Director for an
appointment at 617-232-9222.
We advise that your
child be present during this initial visit to our facility. It
will give you a good idea if this is a match for you and your
child.
Classrooms
Infant and
toddler program
Carefully designed to
provide a nurturing and learning environment, the Infant group
enjoys music, singing and conversation with their teachers.
The toddler classroom is supplied with appropriate toys and
materials that stimulate the child’s development.
The preschool
and pre-k classrooms
Designed to encourage
independence and a positive self image, the curriculum
introduces basic educational concepts such as letters and
sound recognition, the beginning of language and arts,
introduction to math concepts, computer literacy, literacy
program and visual arts.
Programs
Meals and snacks
We provide nutritious
and well balance meals which include breakfast, lunch and
snacks. The menu is posted weekly for parents to review and
coordinate their child’s nutritional intake with their meals
at home.
Swimming
During the summer
months the preschool classrooms participate in swimming
lessons and water play at the RTH Community swimming pool. The
lifeguards are certified water safety instructors and our
swimming pool is operated by trained professionals.
Movement and
Exercise
The focus of this
program is spatial awareness and gross motor control. The
children participate in weekly exercise and dance classes in
the Center’s gym room.
Plant Life
Children learn to grow
plants from seed. The children plant vegetable gardens,
flowers, mint, echinacea, rosemary etc. The focus of this
program is to develop a caring and nurturing attitude toward
self, each other and the environment.
Literacy program
Together with Read
Boston, we bring the family and school together. We provide
reading materials to our children to assist with a special
moment of Reading Time with the Family. The program’s
focus is to develop a habit of reading together, and learning
to enjoy and respect books.
Zoo School
This is an interactive
weekly program with Franklin Park Zoo. The preschool children
have an hour of learning about different species, habitat,
what animals eat, their babies and much more. Science made fun
with different animal species, brought right to the classroom.
Read
Boston Reading Trail
RTH Children's Center
is participating in the Read Boston Reading Trail Program.
This city wide literacy program initiative was started by
Mayor Menino in 1995. With a free book program available for
children from infancy through elementary school, the goal of
the Read Boston program is to have all Boston school children
reading at grade level by the end of the third grade.
Read Boston will
assist our Center with nine books per child. Our Center will
received custody of these books in three installments. First
installment of books was received on October 2007, the second
installment will be received on March 2008 and the last
installment will be received on June 2008. Thereafter Read
Boston will continue to provide technical assistance and
guidance in maintaining our library.
The Read Boston seeks
to sustain the following benchmarks:
- To increase the
amount of time that children spend reading at home with
their families
- To raise awareness
around the importance of early childhood literacy at home
and at school
- To promote
interactive reading ideas which supports children’s language
development
- To create a
permanent lending library at RTH Children’s Center
